For Buster "Brian Earl Spilner" Spillner
Ohana Member, Silver Streak, Best Boy
Departed for the Final Race on January 14th 2026
It is with heavy hearts, but with gratitude for a life lived a quarter-mile at a time, that we announce our crew has lost its founding member. Buster, known to his family as Brian Earl Spilner, crossed the finish line today after a long, legendary run. He was 17 years old, a miracle age for a rescue who started his life as an island drift racer.
His story began on the lava flats of Maui, a true street dog with a tattoo in his ear and the spirit of a wanderer. He lived by the island code, surviving after losing his first owner. But his life was meant for more than just survival. He was meant for family. His journey to us was a gift from a beloved godmother, a plot twist that brought our “Mr. Arizona” home.
He arrived nearly blind, but what he lacked in sight, he made up for with a navigator’s heart. He saw us with his soul. For eight incredible years, he wasn't just a pet; he was the bedrock of our ohana. He taught us that you don’t need eyes to lead the way, and you don’t need a loud engine to have the biggest presence.
True to his namesake, Brian Earl Spilner, he was our silver streak of loyalty. He never bailed on his family. Through every twist and turn, he was in the passenger seat, head out the window, feeling the wind. He lived his life a quarter-mile at a time, reminding us that the most important thing in life is the people—and dogs—you have in the passenger seat beside you.
He didn’t just live to 17; he earned every single one of those years with the grit of a street fighter and the grace of a champion. He outran every expectation.
Today, we had to make the hardest decision a crew can make: to give our driver a clear road to the rainbow bridge. We let him go not because we didn’t have more love to give, but because we loved him too much to let the ride get rough.
He leaves behind a heartbroken crew who will forever miss his quiet presence, his steady pace, and the unconditional loyalty he revved into our lives every single day.
So rest easy, Buster. You’ve earned your place in the eternal winners’ circle. Save a seat for us. Until we meet again, drive fast, take the scenic route, and know you were always, always family.
“It’s not how you stand by your car, it’s how you race your car.” You raced beautifully, Buster. You really did.
We love you more than all the cars in all the garages in the world.
